Choosing Your First Candle
A Guide to Scent Selection
Recorded in the Fifth Age, Day 113, of the Narrowing Cycle.
Each traveller enters the Realm differently.
Some are drawn to sunlit orchards. Others to the warmth and bustle of inns.
Some turn toward forest and grove, seeking something older or wilder.
And some pause at the threshold—unsure where to begin.
Choosing a first flame is not as simple as it seems.
Especially not when each scent carries a place, a mood, a memory waiting to form.
Too many options can invite overwhelm, to the point where none of them feel certain.
For those who would rather not wander the Realm looking for their ideal scent, the Guild has cleared a path.
Five scents. No missteps, and each one ideal as a first flame.
Choosing Your First Flame
When selecting your first flame, simplicity serves you better than adventure.
The first candle should settle easily into your space—
instead of demanding your attention to be understood.
It should feel familiar yet layered enough to hold your attention.
Present, but never overwhelming.
These five blends were chosen for that purpose:
to welcome you into the Realm without resistance.
The Five Introductory Blends
These blends avoid extremes—nothing too sharp, too heavy, or too unfamiliar.
1/ Goldberry
Bright fruit with green notes—an easy anchor that is widely loved.
2/ Royal Fool
Lively sweet citrus; a lingering lemon sherbet, familiar and uplifting.
3/ Chaos Sorceress
Crisp orange layered with fresh spice and herb—clean and vibrant.
4/ Queen of the Vale
Soft florals tempered with green herbs—elegant and composed.
5/ Hogfather
Warm spice, stone fruit, and hearth fire—comforting and steady.
